Women's Tennis: No. 2 AASU 9, UNC Pembroke 0

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of North Carolina at Pembroke women's tennis team lost 9-0 to Armstrong Atlantic State University on Wednesday evening in Pembroke, NC. The loss drops the Lady Braves to 3-4 on the year and 0-2 in conference play, while the AASU women improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 play.

UNCP put forth a valiant effort, but fell short in every contest. Golopeneza defeated Andrea Vukcevic 6-0, 6-1 in the #1 match. Naomi Ellis lost to Emmrich 6-2, 6-0 as the #2 seed. In the #3 position, Erin Saltzman lost 6-1, 6-2 to Peaty. Abi French, playing in the #4 position, was defeated by Aguilar 6-1, 6-3. Grage handed Lauren Losoncy a loss 6-0, 6-0 as the #5 player. In the #6 slot, Shannon Gentry lost to Vaughan 6-3, 6-1.

Golopeneza and Emmrich defeated Vuckcevic and Ellis in doubles competition. AASU won that match 8-2. Saltzman and French were paired against Grage and Peaty as the #2 doubles team. The Pirates pulled off a victory 8-0. Losoncy and Gentry lost to Aguilar and Vaughan 8-1.

The Lady Pirates also take on Francis Marion in Tuesday's doubleheader action in Florence, S.C.
