Women's Tennis: No. 2 AASU (DII) 7, Charlotte 0
SAVANNAH, Ga. The Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis squad blanked Division I Charlotte, 7-0, on Saturday to remain unbeaten on the 2007 season. AASU improves to 9-0 with the win, while Charlotte sees its four-match win streak snapped and falls to 4-1.
The Lady Pirates swept all three doubles matches to win the single doubles point as the match was played in the DI scoring format.
Iuliia Stupak, the nation's top-ranked singles player in DII, then faced No. 95-ranked DI freshman Ana Spivakovsky and Stupak picked up the 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win in the top singles spot. Dziyana Nazaruk, the reigning PBC Player of the Week, also had to go three sets to stop Kathy Robey, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. Johanna Dahlback, Gabriella Kovacs, Sofia Haggstrom and Martina Beckmann also picked up singles wins for the Pirates.
AASU returns to Peach Belt play on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. matchup with Columbus State at the AASU Tennis Complex.
