Women's Tennis: No. 1 AASU 9, No. 1 (DIII) Emory 0
MONTGOMERY, Ala. The
top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team beat
their second top-ranked team in two days as the Lady Pirates
knocked off Division III's top school, Emory, by a 9-0 margin on
Sunday afternoon.
Armstrong Atlantic extended its win streak to 52 by sweeping
Emory and concluding its regular season with a 22-0 record. The
Lady Pirates swept all three doubles matches, then picked up
straight set wins in all three singles matches. Luisa Cowper
blanked Linda Tien, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Iuliia
Stupak picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Richelle Marasigan at No. 2
singles. Dziyana Nazaruk, Johanna Dahlback, Manuela Emmrich and Caroline
Grage also picked up singles wins for the Lady Pirates.
AASU will now head to the Peach Belt Conference Championships in
Florence, S.C., on Thursday as the top seed and co-champions of
the league with Columbus State. AASU's first opponent in the PBC
Tournament will be determined on Monday.
