2005 Mid-Atlantic Regional: GC&SU 6, USC Upstate 2

SAVANNAH, Ga. – GC&SU advanced to the 2005 Mid-Atlantic Women's Tennis Regional final with a 6-2 win over fellow PBC foe USC Upstate on Friday at the Bacon Park Tennis Complex in Savannah, Ga. The Bobcats will face undefeated Armstrong Atlantic State in the region final at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a berth to the Round of 16 on the line.

The Bobcats (16-9) had lost to USC Upstate (12-8) twice previously - losing 5-3 during the regular season and 5-4 in the first round of the PBC Championships - but the third time was a charm for GC&SU as they took a 2-1 lead in doubles, then picked up four wins in singles to advance. Anna Shchupak knocked off Marianna Melo, 6-3, 6-4, in a battle of top-20 ranked singles players for the Bobcats, while Celine Martin, Anna Davidsson and Jessica McKnight also picked up singles wins.

The winner of the Mid-Atlantic Region earns one of 16 berths in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla., on May 11-14.
