Women's Tennis: Brenau 5, Armstrong Atlantic State 4

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 3-ranked AASU women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season to the No. 2-ranked team in NAIA, Brenau University, 5-4 at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.

The Lady Pirates took one doubles match as sophomore Zsofi Golopencza and senior Michaela Kratochvilova teamed to defeat the Brenau squad of Bilijana Dimovska and Shan Liew, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Brenau took the other two doubles matches.

AASU picked up three singles wins as Annamaria Forgacs, ranked No. 17 in singles in DII, defeated Irina Yarikova of Brenau, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Kratochvilova defeated Bilijana Dimovska, 6-4, 6-2, and Laura Puch defeated Katarina Franjic, 6-3, 6-4.

In a rematch of top-ranked singles players, Brenau's Tonia Grib, the top-ranked singles player in NAIA, defeated Zsofi Golopencza, the top-ranked singles DII player, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

The Lady Pirates return to action on Friday, March 8 against Columbus State at 2:00 p.m.
