NCAA Women's Tennis South Region: AASU 7, North Alabama 1
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The No. 6-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State Lady Pirates defeated North Alabama Lions, 7-1, in first-round action at the NCAA Division II South Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Pirates won two of three doubles matches, then won five of the singles matches to pick up the victory. Stephanie Kovacic, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, defeated UNA's Elena Torres, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to lead the Lady Pirates.
Armstrong Atlantic State now faces the host University of North Florida on Saturday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the region championship match. The winner advances to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis National Championships on May 11-14 in Pensacola, Fla.
