Coach Jen Michael Former Francis Marion University standout setter Jen Michael enters her second season as the Pirates' assistant volleyball coach. A four-year letterwinner for Francis Marion, Michael also competed for the Patriot track and field and cross country squads. The 2000 team MVP, Michael was a member of the 1998 Patriot squad (27-6 record) that won the PBC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Division II national tournament. During her four-year career, she appeared in 120 matches (394 games) and recorded 228 kills, 985 assists, 135 service aces, and 880 digs. As a senior, she ranked sixth in the PBC in assists per game and 10th in service aces per game. Michael earned her B.S. degree in mathematics in May of 2002 and graduated magna cum laude. She received the Secondary Education Award at the university's 2002 Academic Awards Day program. She was named to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll four times, was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies, was a Francis Marion Scholar, and was selected to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. A native of Canal Fulton, Ohio Michael was an All-League and All-District performer at Jackson High School, and a senior played in the Ohio East-West All-Star Match. Michael, 23, will complete her master's degree in math education at Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2004. |
