Knuth Named To ESPN Academic All-America Team
SAVANNAH, Ga. (November 28) Armstrong Atlantic State senior middle hitter Traci Knuth has been named to the ESPN: The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America volleyball team, released on Thursday. Knuth, who appears on the college division's third team, is the first AASU volleyball player in school history to earn Academic All-America honors.
Knuth led the Pirates to a second consecutive Peach Belt Conference regular season title, while also being named the PBC’s Player of the Year for a second straight season. The Columbus, Neb., native carries a 3.86 GPA in health science and recently wrapped up her four-year AASU career as the Pirates’ all-time leader in kills (1,409) and blocks (536). Knuth has attended AASU for the last four years on a Presidential scholarship, is an member of the AASU honors program and has been named to the PBC’s Presidential Honor Roll each of the last three seasons.
Knuth is the fourth ESPN: The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree in Armstrong Atlantic athletics history - and the first non-baseball player to be honored. AASU's previous three Academic All-America honorees have all been baseball players - catcher Chris Milisits (1993), catcher David Harriman (2002) and catcher Michael Pelley (2004).
